History

While the consulting firm of Praxis Analytics LLP began formal operations on 1 January 2019, the managing members have worked together for over fifteen years. Dr. Derrick Cogburn and Dr. Noemí Enchautegui-de-Jesus met while working at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They found that their individual fields complemented each other’s in surprising, and what turned out to be inseparable, ways. Dr. Cogburn was serving on the faculty of the School of Information and Dr. Enchautegui worked on an NIH-funded post-doctoral fellowship. Over the years, this husband and wife team have worked on a wide variety of mixed methods research and evaluation projects. Dr. Cogburn, in addition to serving a President and CEO of the firm, focuses on computational text mining including categorization and classification model development, and data visualization as well as predictive and prescriptive modeling and automated machine learning using commercial (e.g. Provalis ProSuite, DataRobot, and Tableau) and open source tools (e.g,. R, Python). He also conducts individual and group training on these commercial and open source tools. Dr. Enchautegui focuses on research design and qualitative and statistical analysis.

One impetus to the formation of the actual firm was the iCorps grant funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to the American University Center for Innovation (AUCI). The iCorps program is designed to facilitate faculty entrepreneurship and student collaboration. As part of the AU iCorps, Dr. Cogburn fielded a team of graduate and undergraduate students in the Spring semester of 2018. This team conducted numerous client discovery interviews and helped to shape the market approach now taken by Praxis Analytics LLC.

For over two decades, the team at Praxis Analytics LLC has facilitated the success of researchers in diverse fields and industries around the world.
